The horror pottery of Jessica Harrison

Jessica Harrison's horror pottery is a wonderful example of how art needn't cost you a fortune as a hobby. As you'll have seen in previous blogposts, there are people like Ptolemy Elrington, David Kemp and Aluminous Publishing who all produce fantastic things by recycling old or discarded materials. Jessica does the same but with the kind of twee pottery you find for a couple of quid in charity shops.

I realise it won't be to everyone's taste (but isn't that the very essence of art?) but I think that they're great. It's the juxtaposition of the tacky swill-cast porcelain and lazy glazing and the very realistic and visceral wounds and amputations that makes it work. It's like Johnny Marr's happy dancing guitars and Morrissey's dismal funereal vocals; put them together and you get something splendid.

You can see more of her work on her website here.
